We were joined today by Deputy Chief Joe Hoying and Paramedic John Cerjan . For 17 years, the Fire Safety House as taught about 20,000 local children the importance of Fire Prevention and how to stay safe around the home. It is with great support the Mason-Deerfield Rotary was the sole contributor initially to purchase the house. Other communities use the house as well including Waynesville.
The Fire Safety House is designed to prepare children in a safe way from pre-school through 5th grade what to expect if ever they are caught in a fire. The house is a model of an average home, with a kitchen, stairs, fire place and bedroom. Everything is designed to educate the children. Children will then go through the house and point out what is wrong and show how to correct it. The important things to remember are to 1) Never Panic 2) Never run and hide and 3) Get to a safe place.
