Our club was excited to welcome back the Otchere family, Toni, Baffour and Alexia, members of the Cincinnati Rotary Club and Cincinnati Country Day Interact Club to update us on their recent trip to Ghana. Our club joined them, the Hillsboro Rotary Club and other corporate sponsors to help make the trip possible.

A group of volunteers headed to the village of Kumasi Ghana in West Africa as part of the World Affairs program to work at a school. Many projects for the school were worked on including much needed painting and repairing a roof. They delivered supplies including 2500 textbooks on nine subjects and built bookcases and desks. The community also received eye exams and glasses.
Alexia Otchere, who started the Interact Club at her school that helped raised funds for the project, said in a local interview that she “loved helping and seeing the joy on their faces.”

There are plans being made to return next year with the focus being on a nearby primary school. They will also be teaching CPR and basic medical training which is much needed in the area.
