Helpers of the World We Applaud You!

As the world continues to deal with this pandemic we see how it is dealt with on an emotional level. Many experience anxiety and fear and others disbelief and even anger. One way to to cope is to get busy helping.

We have had a couple of guest speakers to our online meetings over the past month that have been previous visitors to our club. It was great to hear an update on how they are dealing with the changes and challenges that we could never have foreseen.

Rishika, founder of Little Helpers, shared with us how she had answered the call as the pandemic started. Little Helpers has reached out to partner with Comet Cupboard and Joshua’s Place who help with the food needs in the community.

Through the end of July Little Helpers has a Pay it Forward campaign that will purchase gift cards to local businesses and then give those gift cards to families in need, a double win! To donate to the campaign go to https://littlehelpers2015.org

Her sister Joshika who creates beautiful jewelry with Jewels for Joy has donated some of her creations to the doctors and nurses as a thank you for their dedication.

Matthew 25 Ministries has been a long time partner of our Rotary Club since 2006 when we joined in efforts to being electricity to a village in Nicaragua. Our group has been regular volunteers onsite and have sorted a wide range of items always having a great time together.

Bruce Effers of Matthew 25 checked in with us to let us know how they have adapted to this Covid 19. Matthew 25 had to close its doors to volunteers who usually would process about 95% of the donations. Employees of Matthew 25 also dropped in number due to the safety of the employees or a family member at risk.

Despite having no volunteers shipments increased and by chance the slow down in requests last Fall helped as Matthew 25 had a good stock of masks and hand sanitizer already on hand. Of course they were soon dispersed to those in need and donations like the one our club sent added to the amount available to send.

As of June volunteers are slowly being added back to the mission. Currently it is only individuals and families Monday through Friday as distancing is required but Matthew25 is working on ways to hopefully soon include larger groups. To find out more or to donate go to https://m25m.org/

As Rotarians helping is what we do and we greatly appreciate those in the world who are ready to step up when needed. Any action, big or small not only helps those in need and makes the world a better place but also helps the giver as there is no better therapy than Service Above Self.
